Bookworm - Derry / Londonderry
Hi folks,
there is a superb bookstore here in Derry owned and managed by Peter McKenzie that sells many books not available in the larger stores. It is called Bookworm and is sited on Bishop Street, just up off the Diamond / War Memorial. I have bought most of the books I own there. Although there is now news it is going to close due to a drop in sales because of the internet:

Any way it's looked at, selling books these days is going to be a hard task. Having a bookstore is expensive: premises, insurance, wages etc. Freelancing is challenged because people are out socialising much more. While the books they buy online, wait at home, probably unread.

I'll check it out later on this evening. Guests on their way right now. I was up on Bishop Street here in Derry yesterday and seeing all the 'closing down' and 'everything must go' posters confirmed just how bad a situation things are currently. Here's hoping it all gets better. No matter how much the internet is plugged, there is nothing to compare with browsing around bookstores. A lot gets missed online...

I've had a lengthy cyber-stroll through The Big Green Bookshop / UKA Press now and think it's absolutely splendid. Thanks for the linky.
I'm curious about something. As a publisher, would you see any benefit in short Flash Media commercials for either individual books or independent bookstores / publishers? If you have gone through my own site (www.upstaterenegadeproductions.com), you will have seen that Diarmuid McGowan and myself produce short films for the internet. These can also be converted into regular film for dvd/video markets and cinema release. We have a massive website where we can host these commercials and we guarantee to undercut everyone else who may be in the market for the same kind of product...
